Time-honoured Welsh recipes

While Welsh ingredients can hold their own in many culinary settings and attract the most discernible palates from around the world, they will always have that unmistakeable home-grown taste, passed down from generation to generation.

Traditional Welsh recipes may vary from region to region and change over time (with a little something added here and there), but the main Welsh ingredients will always stand the test of time. We think these recipes truly epitomise the culture, traditions and flavours of Wales.

Genuinely Iconic

With global admiration, it is not surprising that an increasing number of Wales’s food and drink products are being awarded protected food name status under the Geographical Indication (GI) scheme. To date, the internationally recognised accreditation has positioned 20 iconic Welsh food and drink products on the world stage. Recently joining the exclusive GI family are Welsh Leeks (PGI), Gower Salt Marsh Lamb (PDO) and Single Malt Welsh Whisky (PGI).

Supporting our planet

Natural resources and outstanding landscapes, coupled with its people and culture, underpin Wales’ rich and diverse food and drink industry. From responsible farming and fishing practices to B Corp accreditation, eco-friendly packaging processes and a fair work ethos – these are just some of the elements that define the industry, resulting in one of the most environmentally and socially responsible food and drink supply chains in the world.

Award-winning food and drink

Wales is home to a thriving food and drink sector that is ever evolving and continues to innovate and create award-winning produce. The exceptional quality and range in products do not go unnoticed. In 2023, 195 food and drink products from Wales won a prestigious Great Taste award from the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme.
